Patina and Power Make This 1958 Edsel Villager Restomod the Perfect Sleeper

dsels are often the victim of an unfair public perception (not unlike the Corvair). We won't go into the details here but suffice it to say that Ford's Edsel debacle was more complicated than many people realize. Moving on, we have this 1958 Edsel Villager station wagon restomod up for bids at Hemmings Auctions. In this case, the restomod title refers mostly to the powertrain, as the standard 361-cubic-inch V-8 (known as the E400) has been massaged to an estimated 375 horsepower and a three-speed automatic takes the place of the factory two-speed. Contrast that with the exterior, where what's left of the original paint and the resulting patina create a dichotomy guaranteed to elicit surprised grins. Inside, new upholstery with cowhide inserts make this a comfortable cruiser, and lest there be any doubt, the seller states this Edsel recently made a trouble-free road trip from Idaho to Southern California.
